LEFTOVER LILY
Meet Lily Hill, a six-year-old who's decided that she's going to be the boss for a change.
Watch out, everyone!
Lily Hill has just found out that it is very hard for three kids to be best friends. Sooner or later there will be a fight, and then boom! one kid will be left over.
That's what has happened to her with bossy Daisy and pretty LaVon, and it's almost Valentine's Day-Lily's favorite holiday. But she doesn't want to spend it friendless.
"Boy, do I remember having that problem when I was a kid!" Sally Warner exclaims. "There were always behind-the-scenes battles going on with me and my friends. Such squabbles can create difficult situations, but they're also funny-that is, if you look at them right."
"One thing I learned yesterday is that it is easy for two kids to be best friends, but it is harder for three kids to do it. And three minus two equals one, which is what will be left over. That's me, leftover Lily."
"By the way," she continues, "I loved the idea of Hilary's little dog so much that I got one for myself! He is a miniature dachshund, just like Hilary's dog, and his name is 'Rocky,' too. Can you find his picture in my website?"

"Warner knows what's important to children and has a good ear for dialogue. Readers will nod in recognition of Lily's problems with triangular friendships, classroom politics, and the many nuances of Valentine's-card giving."
